Johnathon Foster is a Memphis native living in Dallas, TX.
Foster’s work looks at the bridge between the internal and external identities of being a black man in America." As a black male, as well as a father, also as an artist and even an educator, the constant struggle revolves around identity, both how I perceive myself and how I am perceived, coupled with challenging stereotypes associated with each facet… All of these societal “hats” I wear seem to all pull me in their respective direction which creates a certain stigma or dogma. James Baldwin once stated “To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a rage almost all the time.”"
He was one of 5 featured artists in the Identity: I am One, I am Many exhibition at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center in May 2017.
